Jonathan Beebee, Chief Enablement Officer at PBS4, will be running the London Marathon 2026 in support of Mencap. In our March newsletter, he shared a short reflection on his training and what the experience has meant to him.

It’s felt like it’s been ages away for a long time, and all of a sudden it is here. This month (26th April) I will be running the London Marathon! It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time, and it is a real privilege to be doing it in support of Mencap. Knowing that all the training, and the marathon itself, will help improve the lives of people with learning disabilities makes every mile worthwhile. There is still time to sponsor me if you wish, and a huge thank you to those who already have.
Training has reminded me of something we witness every day in PBS4: progress takes time, persistence, and the right support around you. There have been tough mornings and moments where the finish line felt far away, yet each small step moved me forward. It’s the same determination we see in the people we support, who achieve incredible things when we work with them to create the conditions in which they can thrive.
Running has also given me space to reflect on the importance of encouragement. No marathon runner succeeds alone, and neither do the people we support. Every interaction, every positive moment you create, helps build confidence, independence, and joy. These everyday acts of care and skill may seem small, but they’re life‑changing.
As race day approaches, I’m reminded of the importance of celebrating effort as much as achievement. So while I prepare for the starting line, I want to celebrate all of you for the compassion and commitment you show every day. Thank you for making PBS4 a place where people with learning disabilities are supported to live the lives they choose.
